The British model and hobby internet retailer announced a 67 per cent rise in sales in the face of negative retail growth and falling consumer confidence over the summer.

The firm has seen sales rising across almost all of its products ranges – from Hornby and Airfix, through to VTech and even the higher priced premium imported lines Artmaster and Duha.

Fiona Mulhall, managing director, commented “We’ve been seeing a gradual increase in sales over the last few months, but the level of growth has become quite amazing.”

She continued: “Although it’s early days, we’re expecting a good second half to the year. We continue to see the traditional model and hobby brands as being a safe haven in downturns. Customers will willingly stretch themselves to purchase a Scalextric brand set, rather than the less well known but lower cost alternative.”
