NY TOY FAIR 2011: Cabbage Patch Kids comeback

Jakks relaunches the popular 80s property with new toy line due for autumn launch.

Over 123 million Cabbage Patch Kids have been ‘adopted’ to date and the dolls are now set for a rebirth as Jakks launches a line of fashion-forward Cabbage Patch Kids and Toddlers with a contemporary new look and interactive play features.

Coinciding with the launch, Jakks and Cabbage Patch Kids creators Original Appalachian Artworks will connect generations of adoptive Cabbage Patch Kids parents through a 'Connecting the Generations' campaign that will promote the importance of genealogy.

The new range will have a contemporary positioning and modern style that today’s kids can relate to. The new Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionalities are 14” tall and each feature a different Fashionality style with 12 personalities from ‘prepsters’ to ‘skateboarders’.

Each ‘Kid comes with a unique name, Birth Certificate and a code to download the Cabbage Patch Kids video The New Kid.

Additional products planned to launch in autumn include the Cabbage Patch Kids A,B,C -- Play With Me line. This range features Toddlers with the same soft and cuddly body, but with added interactive features.

The interactive Cabbage Patch Kids 'Dirty to Clean' Bath Newborns have a colour-change feature Each newborn will appear dirty, but when wiped clean with the wash cloth, the dirt 'disappears'.

The website also features a 'Family Reunion Sweepstakes' campaign, which encourages families to learn about their roots by building their family tree and registering to win a family reunion for up to 12 of their family members at BabyLand General Hospital. The competition begins on August 1st, and ends December 31st, 2011.

In addition, a number of social media activities and partnerships are slated for the relaunch.
