Outdoor and sports toys is the second largest supercategory within traditional toys by value.

Outdoor and sports toys has always been heavily seasonal, depending on the British weather to deliver sales. The last year has seen some strong growth in the category with the 2010 summer starting early – April 2010 was one of the driest Aprils on record and the lack of rain continued until August.

June was the largest month of sales for the category rather than the normal peak in December, with sales reaching just under £40m for the month. (Source: NPD EPoS Retail Tracking Service).
