New York show opens

More than 1,200 exhibitors present at the 105th American International Toy Fair.

Some 15,000 registered buyers and 21.000 industry professionals are also expected to attend the annual event with the theme of Inspiring Growth, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center and additional showrooms in New York.

This year’s fair sees the opening of new exhibits: the Inventor Center, where as many as 20 product inventions are being showcased; Fundamentals, an area which features educational toys and games to demonstrate how learning and play work together.

Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a third generation of the Lego family and former CEO of Lego has been inducted into the 2008 Toy Industry Hall of Fame.

Carter Keithley, president of the TIA said: “Toy Fair is the North American showcase for the most creative and innovative toys that kids are absolutely going to want to have in 2008.

“Toys are all about fun and imagination and playfulness, and toy retailers will find the creative new toys at Toy Fair that will make their cash registers ring throughout the year, especially when we head into the holiday season.”



New direction for NY show?

The success of this year’s American International Toy Fair in New York, without the Toy Center building, could open the way for a new more centralised show.
