The 2012 UK Games Expo was such a success that the organisers are moving next year’s show to a bigger venue.

This year 2,500 attendees visited the specialist event for hobby games players and families, representing year-on-year growth of 20 per cent. Some 4,000 attendances were recorded overall, across the 2,500 unique visitors.

The event consists of one games day and two trade show days. It focuses on board games, card games, roleplaying games and table-top miniatures.

Next year the UK Games Expo will run from May 24th to May 26th. It will be held at the NEC Hilton Metropole instead of the Clarendon Suites.

“This should allow more space for all activities including a larger trade presence,” UK Games Expo director Richard Denning told ToyNews.

“The emphasis at the Expo is playing games. So there are scores of demo tables where publishers show off their games. Traders also sell their games. This combination works well.

“In addition, we put a lot of effort into providing entertainment for families. For example we have Star Wars and Doctor Who costume groups and a large family zone.”

The UK Games Expo attracts over 70 traders and suppliers showing off their games. The event consists of seminars on how to design and publish games, tournaments, and guests such as Games Workshop founders Steve Jackson and Ian Livingston, as well as Star Wars’ R2-D2 actor Kenny Baker.

Ticket prices will remain the same for next year’s event. Prices range from £5 for a single child day ticket to £18 for a three-day adult pass.

The first UK Games Expo was held in 2007 and attracted some 1,200 visitors.
