New chief for TRU

Toys R Us appoints new president for North America.

Ron Boire has been named president, taking on the responsibility of the firm’s Canadian operations. This will involve overseeing all merchandising, marketing and operations for Canada’s 67 locations and e-commerce business.

The president of Toys R Us, Canada, Monika Merz, will also report directly to Boire, who is already responsible for overseeing similar operations of the firm’s 586 stores in the US.

Boire said of his new position: “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to facilitate even more collaboration between our US and Canadian teams in advancing our toy authority and specialist positions”.

“The innovative new store formats developed by Monika and her team have been successfully implemented in our Toys R Us stores worldwide, and I look forward to the sharing of ideas that will result from our combined organisations,” he said.

Boire joined the firm in July 2006 as president of its US stores. Previous to this he was executive vice president and global merchandise manager for Best Buy.



New chief for DCP Europe

Anne Gates has been appointed to the newly created position of executive vice president and managing director of Disney Consumer Products Europe.


TRU boss stepping down

Toys R Us has confirmed that chief executive John Eyler and its COO, Chris Kay, will step down when the company is acquired by private investors.
