30 years ago today, the first Sylvanian Families went on sale in Japan and Epoch making toys is marking the occasion with a host of activity, including the launch of a new Sylvanian Families Nature Trail.

Epoch making toys has teamed with the Natural Trust to launch the trail, which will open to the public at Hatchlands Park in Surrey on May 1st.

The trail encourages children to learn about the surrounding wildlife and trees, reflecting the company’s strategy to focus on nature being at the heart of Sylvanian Families.

Epoch making toys is also partnering with the National Trust to host two birthday picnics for fans this summer at Hatchlands Park on Sunday, July 12th, and at Wallington, Northumberland on Saturday, August 1st.

Additional birthday activity taking place today includes a nationwide search to find a village in Britain that can be ‘twinned’ with Sylvania, which launches on Facebook this morning.

Once a shortlist of villages has been drawn up, fans can vote for the best match. The winning village will receive a visit from the Sylvanian Families characters to present the primary school with an entire Sylvanian village plus a year’s free membership to the new Sylvanian Families Premium Fan Club. Epoch making toys will also donate £500 worth of toys to the school to sell at the summer fête.

The UK’s favourite Sylvanian family – as voted for by the fans – will also be revealed on social media today, followed by a Twitter party where people can win spot prizes by sending in photos of their collections, whether vintage items from the 1980s or toys from the current day.

“Our anniversary activity is designed to unite Sylvanian Families fans from the last 30 years, and provide a variety of events and initiatives for all ages," said Sally Carnall, marketing manager at Epoch making toys.

"We hope everyone gets involved to join in the celebrations and fun."
