Created by schoolteachers Patsy Tucker and Enid Strickland, My Favourite Friend is a 16-inch plush doll with posable dangly legs. She has a heart-shaped pocket which is used to store photos of loved ones.
The pair designed the doll to bring comfort to "distressed parents and children at times of impending separation" - such as the first day at school or a stay in a hospital.
An initial run of 250 dolls have been produced and the teachers have already had orders from several independent shops. Additional dolls are planned in the shape of friends, family and pets.
