Creative play specialist Makedo is looking to make waves in the US marketplace, having secured a distribution deal with Toysmith.
The Australian-based firm's products have been dubbed as 'Lego for the next generation' in some circles, and are now available in the US through specialty retailers including Fat Brain Toys and MindWare. It is now retailing in over 40 countries.
The aim of each Makedo kit is to transform everyday and reclaimed materials into play objects.
The kits include a safe-saw for cutting and punching through materials, re-clips and lock hinges for connecting. Packs include Find & Make, Freeplay and Cup Critter ranges.
"Play is one of the most powerful vehicles children have to form the skills they need to face future opportunities and challenges," said Paul Justin, founder and CEO of Makedo. "It enables them to master new skills, concepts and experiences.
"In particular, open-ended play lets them creatively problem solve, leaving the child free to find his or her own unique way through without a right or wrong outcome.
"Makedo encourages the unstructured aspect of play. We provide child-centric tools to inspire imagination and allow kids to create freely without restriction."
