China is building a nationwide traceability system that will verify the safety and quality of products manufactured in the country, it has been reported.

The launch of the system was marked by a ceremony held in Beijing on Sunday.

The system will help track the origin of a toy and hold its producer accountable in case of a problem, quality inspection expert Yang Dayue told Xinhua. The system will also help toy manufacturers improve quality control through the use of big data.

The system is based on a big data platform and uses Internet and artificial intelligence technologies, Yang said.

China is currently the largest toy producer and exporter in the world with toy exports increasing 24.9 percent year on year in 2016, customs data showed.
