Lord Waheed Alli joins high profile speakers at Children's Media Conference 2016

Media entrepreneur and politician, Lord Waheed Alli will be among a line up of high profile speakers heading to this year’s Children’s Media Conference.

In the opening session of the conference taking place on Wednesday, July 9th, Alli will be joined by the director of BBC Children Alice Webb and Westminster University’s Professor Steve Barnett.

The trio will take part in a Question Time segment discussing the theme Making it Happen for UK Kids.

Additional speaker highlights include Mike Batt from Dramatico Entertainment, Carrie Grant of Fame Academy and The One Show.

Three workshops will also run simultaneously on Tuesday July 5th from 1pm until 5pm. Bible Class 2 will feature a new panel of experts, while Make Something Happen will allow attendees to explore how to make a difference in diversity and Making it Happen with YouTube will see YouTube present a ‘deeper dive’ into their analytics and the kids’ app.

Lucy Murphy from Sky will be on hand to discuss the evolution of VOD and OTT in the Commissioner Conversations, while Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is will see producers pitch new projects to win cash development support from Cheryl Taylor from CBBC, Eryk Casemiro from Zodiak Kids and Mattel’s Christopher Keenan.

“With new players springing up to compete for the audience’s attention and their parents’ pockets and with the government finally producing the long-awaited White Paper on the future of the BBC, including new ideas about a contestable fund for kids’ content, there’s a sense that the industry is on the move.

“We wanted to Make It Happen by providing a conference which truly covers the issues in this uncertain but opportunity laden landscape and offers the tools to handle change, the information and networking needed to build new partnerships, and the best possible chances for creative ideas to find their way to the kids’ audience.”
