Leicester independent toy retailer Dominoes is to reopen after going in to administration last year.

The award-winning toy shop will relaunch in the city centre in the New Year and will create up to ten new jobs in the area.

The store was bought by its previous owner, Mr Steve Samson, but will not occupy its original site.

“The premise is in the city centre, but it is not the same site as before,” he told Leicester Mercury. “It will be less than half the size of the other one, which was too big.”

Mr Sansom bought the Dominoes name from the administrators after the 30 year old business collapsed in September last year. Sansom blamed its collapse on intense competition from online and supermarket rivals.

However, the owner has been itching to get back on the high street, and believes that high street retailing still has life in it.

“I think what I have got is unique,” he said.

“Everybody knows the name and that the service we provide is good. I want to do that again but on a smaller scale.

“Hopefully, it will get bigger and bigger. As long as the public love Dominoes, I will keep expanding it.”

In 2011, Domino was the biggest independent toy store in the Midlands and was named the best independent toy store in Britain at the Toy Industry Awards.

Mr Sansom has said that the new store would contain just one floor, compared to the four floors occupied by the previous shop.
