Jakks has bagged master toy rights to Slugterra - a new sci-fi action-comedy adventure series set to air on Disney XD this autumn.

The deal will see Jakks manufacture and distribute a toy line which will include accessories, vehicles, play-sets, role-play, novelties and plush items.

“Slugterra has the makings of a great boy’s property and we believe it will translate extremely well to action toys,” said Jill Nordquist, vice president of marketing at Jakks Pacific. “Boys will be drawn to this action-packed, sci-fi comedy adventure about the underground world of slugs.”

Nerd Corps is the company behind the animation. Its head of global consumer products Juli Boylan, said: “Slugterra has all of the hallmarks of a breakthrough boys franchise with staying power. It’s a property that delivers wonderful character-driven stories and a great play pattern full of licensing opportunities. Jakks Pacific is the perfect partner to deliver an innovative and collectible line of toys for Slugterra.”

Asaph Fipke, CEO of Nerd Corps Entertainment and the show’s creator, said: “Becoming a slugslinger and having adventures in this amazing underground world with your trusty slug ammo by your side is at the heart of the Slugterra story.

“Kids want to be the hero, collect and train their slug buddies, then choose their ammo and slug it out. The Jakks toy line will bring that fantasy to life for kids—we can’t wait to see it hit the shelves.”
