Imagination signs Earth deal

Imagination Games signs BBC deal to create games based on its Planet Earth series.
Publish date:

The firm has signed the rights to the games category including a DVD board game and skill, action, board and card games. The interactive DVD board game, currently in development, is based on the ground-breaking television series that has now sold over 500,000 DVDs and nearly 250,000 books in the UK alone.

The game will support the environment where possible, by using product elements derived from sustainable materials. For example, toughened glass is used instead of plastic for the board game counters and all paper elements (packaging, instruction leaflets etc.) are derived from recycled stock or FSC certified.

Launching towards the end of October, the Planet Earth DVD board game will be the first game to be released under the new deal. The new DVD game will feature categories including Pole to Pole, Fresh Water/Ice Worlds, Shallow Seas/Ocean Deep, Deserts/Great Plains, Seasonal Forests/Jungles and Caves/Mountains.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with BBC Worldwide for Planet Earth games," said Imagination’s UK Commercial Director, Steve Reece. “We’re happy to be able to raise awareness about life on our Planet at the same time as delivering industry leading game play experience to consumers; with a brand UK retailers know sells”.

Anna Hewitt, Head of International Licensing for BBC Worldwide said: “We’re delighted to be working with Imagination, one of the world's leading DVD Board Game manufacturers on our biggest Natural History series of all time. The game in development looks great and will not only be fun but will give us all the opportunity to learn about the environment we live in and what we need to do to protect it. We’re looking forward to a successful partnership with Imagination”.

Planet Earth DVD Game is available October 24th for around £29.99.
