Board game inventor Andy Allen has been awarded the accolade Best Abstract Game for his title HexAgony at this year’s UK Games Expo.

30 years after Allen first invented his strategy board game, the tabletop enthusiast took to last weekend’s Birmingham event to showcase the title to industry experts.

The game was reportedly met with great response, not only scooping the accolade for Best Abstract Game but smashing all expected sales targets for the board game.

“The feedback we received during the UK Games Expo was overwhelmingly positive,” Allen told ToyNews.

“Winning the award for Best Abstract Game just a few days after the official UK launch of HexAgony is absolutely incredible, in fact I still can’t believe that it has happened.”

Allen believes that the win has now positioned him and his game to raise the profile of the HexAgony title in the UK as Allen looks to secure a distribution agreement.

“This gives us something to really shout about as we take the game to Essen in October. Then we will be determining the size of the next production run for Christmas,” he said.

“I would highly recommend that all game inventors attend the UK Games Expo, we have not only had incredible and honest feedback, we have met other games inventors, too and that had been invaluable.”
