The new set up serves sourcing functions such as quality control, price negotiation, logistics and product development.
13 full-time staff have been employed and are being led by Will Albers, the firm’s vice president of sourcing.
The office will also allow for improved research and development and better communication between Heelys and its distribution partners, the firm said.
Located in Qingdao, the office is the firm’s first operation outside of the US. A grand opening party will be held on January 24th.
Michael Staffaroni, president and CEO, said: "The new Qingdao office marks a milestone for our company. Opening an office in China places Heelys in a position to strengthen sourcing negotiations, to take more control over the product development process and expands our global presence."
