Hape has acquired the entire shareholding of UK toy distributor, Marbel Toys.

The new deal signifies the latest stage in Hape’s continued plans for expansion following the firm’s success in Asian, American and European markets.

CEO and founder of Hape, Peter Handstein, said: “The deal with Marbel would allow Hape to evolve and drive Marbel forward to continue its success in the UK and Irish markets.

“It also enables Hape to continue long-standing relationships within the toy market and invest to make Marbel and its brands market leaders and increase their market share.

“This acquisition represents the latest stage and continued expansion for Hape and further demonstrates our belief that Marbel is a leading toy distributor.”

Current MD at Marbel, Christoph Bettin will maintain his role, while being appointed Hape Global Marketing Director.

Bettin added: “Peter and I believe this deal represents a great result for our staff and customers. It allows Hape to speed Marbel’s growth with investment, while ensuring our strong ethos in quality and toys will continue.

“For Marbel’s existing customer base, this signals a real positive outcome with many exciting projects in the pipeline.

“I am very excited that this deal allows me to maintain a strong relationship with Marbel, a company founded in 2002, and that will continue to be very important to me on a personal and business level.”
