The family of El Chapo had attempted to trademark his name in a bid to launch official toys around the recently captured Mexican drug kingpin.

The Guardian reports that, according to applications lodged with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, the family had plans to launch El Chapo products across toys, clothing, watches, hats, sporting goods, saddlery and whips.

IMPI rejected the request as a result of El Chapo, real name Joaquin Guzmán, being a wanted fugitive.

So the wait for El Chapo Monopoly goes on (Go directly to maximum security jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200).
