Extreme Fliers has placed among a list of select business recognised as winners of the 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The award has been handed to the firm for its innovation in the miniaturization of technology and its work with the popular Micro Drone 2.0 that has tripled exports overseas in the last two years.

Now sold in 147 countries worldwide, the Micro Drone 2.0 first entered the market in 2012 as the first micro quad-copter with an on board HD camera and made headway in the progression of electronics design among the mini-drones market.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation is the first accolade handed to the young company that continues to explore micro-tech through 3D modelling, printed circuit board prototyping and firmware development.

“We are extremely passionate about drones and working in a fast paced industry,” said Vernon Kerswell, founder an hardware architect of Extreme Fliers.

“We build products that we love to fly ourselves and our customers are our biggest fans. Although we are a small team, each of us is an expert in our field based around this product.

“Recognition from the Queen is a tremendous honour and allows everyone involved in Micro Drone’s development to be proud of our progress so far. It is so encouraging and is just the beginning of a journey that is rapidly unfolding.

“As the UK’s first small-sized consumer drone manufacturer, The Queen’s recognition provides a huge boost to the team and encourages us to continue to raise the bar and push new innovation.”

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is an award programme for British businesses and other organisations that excel at international trade, innovation or sustainable development.

The awards are made on the advice of the Prime Minister after examination by an Advisory Committee composed of leading individuals form industry, commerce, trade unions and government.
