EU joins toy imports debate

German finance minister calls for EU action on toy imports.
Publish date:

The German finance minister Michael Glos (pictured) has called for an EU wide technical service agency to be set up to inspect imported Chinese toys, according to an article in the country’s newspaper, Die Welt.

The article cited a letter from Glos to EU vice president Guenter Verheugen, suggesting toy exporters to the EU need to set up their own quality control procedures, which can then be inspected by the EU.

Glos was quoted by Die Welt: “The recent product recalls have shown that big toy producers are not able to set up quality controls that prevent dangerous toys from entering the domestic market”.
