New marketing guidelines have been put in place to make importers responsible for ensuring products are safe and to also remove some of the barriers to free trade within the EU.

Until now importers have only had to provide technical documents proving the product meets EU standards.

Arnaldo Abruzzini, Secretary General of Eurochambers, an association of the European Chambers of Commerce said the new legislation “is likely to boost SMEs (small and medium enterprises) cross-border trade as well as to cut red tape for companies.”
