Esdevium’s Dobble Challenge promotion is being heralded as a ‘major success’, having secured sales of 6,000 units across the UK’s indie retailers.
The Challenge saw retailers tasked with selling 100 copies of the party game over one year, through in-store demonstrations.
Spurring the competition, stores who managed to sell over 100 units received a £1 rebate and one entry in to the grand prize draw for every additional unit they sold.
For the second year running, Wise Owl Toys of Worcester took home the accolade of biggest Dobble sellers, shifting a massive 915 units.
This year’s Challenge has brought the indie retailer’s sales of Dobble to over 4,000 units since the game was released four years ago.
The winner of the grand prize draw, meanwhile, was Imagine Toys of Holmfirth, west Yorkshire, who sold over 750 units of the game.
“I was quite shocked, but thrilled to win,” said Caroline Anstey, the store’s owner. “The game is a big hit for us here and suitable for just about anyone.”
Esdevium will now continue to drive the popularity of the game with planned TV advertising for the year ahead.
“Promotions such as [the Dobble Challenge] are a nice way to encourage retailers to really get to know and show your product, while giving something back to them at the same time,” said Ben Hogg, marketing manager at Esdevium.
The aim of this was to show what can be achieved when stores get behind a game such as Dobble – some of the sales have been staggering.
“Our year on year sales have more than doubled but there is plenty more room for growth. We will be running TV advertising, starting in March and running across Easter initially.
“This will be in addition to continuing and also increasing the current marketing that has worked so well previously.”
