Esdevium’s popular family game Colt Express has clinched this year’s Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) award.
Widely considered as the highest possible accolade within the board gaming industry, the awards were announced yesterday, having been judged by a panel of German board game critics.
Held in such high regard, past wins have been known to catalyse global sales to between 300,000 and 500,000 units in the first year alone.
Created by French games company, Ludonaute and published in the UK by Esdevium, Colt Express was first launched in 2014and is aimed at families with up to six players.
Challenging players to take on the roles of rival train-robbers in the Wild West, the game features a 3D steam train rather than a board.
“We are thrilled that Colt Express has won the Spiel des Jahres,” said esdevium’s marketing manager, Ben Hogg.
“We first saw the game last year and immediately loved the hilarious, but strategic game play. It is a fitting winner of gaming’s biggest prize.”
Colt Express retails at £27.99 and is available exclusively through Esdevium Games who supply a number of previous Spiel des Jahres winners including Catan, dixit, Ticket to Ride and Carcassonnne.
