A card game based on the hit webcomic series Cyanide & Happiness has passed the $1 million mark on Kickstarter, with the best part of a month still to go.
Titled Joking Hazard, the ‘offensive card game’ centered on the Cyanide & Happiness universe launched to the crowdfunding site earlier this month when it smashed its initial goal of $10,000 in just 27 minutes.
The game seems to be following in the footsteps of the Oatmeal’s Kickstarter smash hit, Exploding Kittens that made crowdfunding history last year when it stormed to success with over $8 million in funding via the site.
With $1,092,039 pledged by 23,269 backers to date and with 21 days still remaining on the site, Joking Hazard looks to be in good shape.
The game itself sees players compete to finish an awful comic strip, with two panels chosen by a judge and everyone else putting forward their choice for the final part of the comic. The judge’s favourite panel wins.
In a similar vein to the Exploding Kittens project of 2015, the campaign also appears to be opting to cultivate a community via Kickstarter by asking fans to complete tasks in order to unlock rewards as opposed to outlining them for different pledges.
These tasks include a fan getting a Cyanide & Happiness tattoo, ten videos of different bands playing the Cyanide & Happiness themes tune and the @CnHJokingHazard twitter page reaching 5,000 Twitter followers.
