Costco opens UK website

US wholesale retailer opens online in the UK - and you don't have to be a member to buy.

Wholesale specialist Costco, one of the world's largest retailers, has started trading in the UK via a new website at

You don't have to be a member to buy from, however basic members are offered savings of five per cent and trade members can opt-out on VAT.

Garth Morris,’s ecommerce director, said: “We’re very excited to launch and hope to give to our members an expanded selection of new items, adding further value to their membership.

“We aim to be complementary to the warehouses, a welcome addition, and whilst published prices are for members only, non-members can now join the treasure hunt by paying an additional five per cent surcharge plus VAT at checkout.”

Membership applicants must first qualify before being granted membership.
