29 per cent of consumers prefer to start their Christmas shopping one month before the big day, a survey by M&S Money has revealed.

Most of those asked said Saturday was their favourite shopping day - meaning this Saturday, November 26th could be the start of the Christmas shopping season.

Around 11 per cent like to start two weeks before the big day, while five per cent wait until just one week before Christmas.

One per cent wait all the way up until Christmas Eve before they buy their gifts and five per cent start a whole year in advance.

35 per cent siad Saturday was their favourite day to go shopping for clothing, luxury food and drink and gifts. Just six per cent of those surveyed said they preferred to shop on Mondays.

Amanda Newman, Premium Club Manager, M&S Money, commented: "Christmas shopping is a real event in many people’s festive calendar. They really plan ahead – making a list, selecting a shopping partner and setting aside a specific time to hit the shops."
