Retailers will be treated to a £2.3 billion year on year sales increase this Christmas, according to a study conducted by Verdict.
The 2.6 per cent increase during the fourth quarter will take sales up to £90.7 billion over the holiday season, with general merchandise accounting for £53.6 billion of the total.
The same study also forecasts that online shopping will take £13 billion as consumers opt for the convenience of digital shopping.
Meanwhile, Click and Collect will also be key this season as Verdict predicts the platform to account for 12 per cent of total online spend at £1.6 billion.
The Verdict report concludes stating that the big four retailers are likely to ‘have a better Christmas than the torrid time they had last year because of their strengthening online offers.’
