Cheltenham is to star in its own official Monopoly board, becoming the first Gloucestershire town to do so.

The Cheltenham Monopoly will be in shops in time for Christmas 2014 and members of the public can now vote for the landmarks set to grace the 22 spaces on the board.

The Community Chest and Chance cards will also get a Cheltenham makeover.

Cheltenham is set to become the very first Gloucestershire town to land its very own, official Monopoly board, which will be available to buy in shops in time for Christmas 2014.

The news comes following Facebook campaigns for the town to get its own board, and members of the public are now invited to vote for the landmarks which will occupy those 22 sought-after spaces.

Famous landmarks including Cheltenham Town Hall, Cheltenham Racecourse, Pittville Pump Room and the recently reopened Wilson art gallery and museum are all expected to feature on the Cheltenham board.

Cheltenham Town F.C. and the picturesque cricket ground should also land spaces, while Everyman Theatre, situated on Regent Street in the town centre, could ironically replace Regent Street from the game’s London counterpart.

‘We shall be spoilt for choice,’ said Winning Moves UK development director, Dan Taylor. ‘The board will showcase Cheltenham’s charms and crown jewel landmarks, as voted by the public.’

What’s more, the Community Chest and Chance cards will also get a Cheltenham flavour and feel, with players likely to get rewarded for not only passing ‘GO’, but the Cheltenham Racecourse winning post as well – and some even facing fines for dropping litter on the town’s prestigious Promenade shopping street.

Since Monopoly first hit the shelves in 1935, the family favourite board game has been played in a staggering 111 countries – and in 43 languages, no less.

Residents from Cheltenham and beyond can get voting for their favourite – and worst – town attractions by emailing cheltenham@winningmoves.co.uk or visiting www.facebook.com/cheltenhammonopoly directly, before the voting period closes on Friday 16 May 2014.
