Character Options has been granted UK distribution rights for toys based on the hugely popular video game Minecraft.

Earlier this year Jazwares struck a deal with game maker Mojang to become global licensed product partner for the brand. Character will supply Jazwares' range to UK retailers.

Products including action figures, plush and paper craft items will be available in time for Christmas this year.

Minecraft is the virtual building game where players create 3D inhabited worlds from textured cubes. The game started life on PC a few years back, before topping the charts on major gaming systems including Xbox 360, with over 22 million copies sold to date.

It's also available as a downloadable app for iOS and Android devices, where more than 56 million users are registered.

Jon Diver, Character Group’s Joint Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Jazwares in bringing the Minecraft toy line to the millions of UK fans. For players, Minecraft is a way of life, and we look forward to introducing a new way for them to interact with the Minecraft world.”

Laura Zebersky, Executive Vice President of Global Sales at Jazwares, added: “Minecraft is one of the hottest brands on the planet right now.

“The world is playing the game and engaging in its remarkably compelling modes. The marketplace is primed for a line of toys, electronics and paper craft items that reflect the fun and creativity of the game.”

The full Minecraft launch range will be revealed in the coming weeks.
