Independent start up, Candylab Toys has returned to Kickstarter to seek funding for a second series of its hit range of stylistic wooden toy cars.

Apart form having one of the coolest names in the industry, Vlad Dragusin has also just surpassed $60,000 in funding, twice his original goal of $30,000.

Inspired by vintage cars, Awesome Wood Cars is the follow up series to Dragusin’s first collection, named Mo-To, which launched across the US last year.

The designer and toy inventor reports that reaction to the first series been excellent and has been met with ‘great enthusiasm.’

Dragusin’s root to retail has not been traditional, and found that the style of his products lent themselves to an alternative market, that saw his collection take residence in museums and men’s fashions stores.

“There has been great enthusiasm from museums, design and speciality retailers and even men’s fashion stores, which was a pleasant surprise to us,” Dragusin told ToyNews.

“It has admittedly been slower in traditional toy stores, where branding, tie-ins or plain low pricing plays a key role, but we are working on something good for that segment, too.”

Candylab Toy now has a distribution agreement in place with various design stores and higher end retail outlets in the UK.

“We decided to launch a second series because, I think at this point, our supporters would be disappointed if we didn’t,” he continued.

“The exposure is fantastic and there is nothing like the tight time frame of Kickstarter to whip up production and logistics.”

Candylab Toys’ Awesome Wooden Toys project has 38 days remaining on the crowd funding site. Check out the campaign here.
