UK online electronics retailer Buy It Direct has launched a dedicated drones platform with the aim of becoming the largest of its kind in the UK.

Called DronesDirect.co.uk, the outlet will offer a wide range of market-leading drones brands including DJI, Parrot, Yuneec, ProFlight and 3DR via its online platform.

The launch follows the acquisition of the drone business ProFlight UK Ltd by the BuyItDirecto Group, which also owns the popular retail website AppliancesDirect and LaptopsDirect.

ProFlight founder Tim Morley will continue to be heavily involved in the business and is now responsible for the website’s continued success and future development.

“We are delighted to have acquired ProFlight UK, which has great credentials within the drones and UAV market, bringing further gadget specialisms under the BuyItDirect umbrella, " said Nick Glynne, managing director at BuyItGroup.

“ProFlight’s proposition allows us to enter the market as Dronesdirect.co.uk at an advanced stage, armed with vast knowledge of the product category and an established customer base.

“This acquisition is key to the continuedgrowth of ButyItDirect and allowsus to maintain our posion within the electronics market. We anticipate drones will become a real growth market as they move from a hobbyist product to have wider appeal – they are genuinely useful pieces of technology and have thousands upon thousands of possible applications."

Morley added: “I am thrilled that BuyItDirect has acquired ProFlight UK and I know the group’s vast experience and expertise in online retailing will allow us to secure future success.”
