Board Game Club grows guest list with second event

“The guest list had been growing daily in the past month and it was great to see so many new faces alongside returning gamers from the launch night," said co-founder Lesley Singleton.

Board Game Club returned to the BrewDog Shoreditch last week for its second event last, and the organisers saw increased numbers arrive to play everything from Cards Against Humanity to an original vintage 1978 Guess Who?.

As well as featuring popular games from the inaugural event, the night also welcomed some new titles including Superfight, a card-based game which had been imported from the States especially for Board Game Club; Accentuate, a new guess-the-accent adult party game launching in July and Trivia Tower, a stackable quiz game demonstrated by inventor Tim Short.

“We’re so impressed with the response to Board Game Club,” said co-founder, Lesley Singleton of Playtime PR.

“The guest list had been growing daily in the past month and it was great to see so many new faces alongside returning gamers from the launch night.

"The secretive and underground vibe was exactly as we had hoped, but the night was also easygoing, agenda-free, utterly hilarious and incredibly friendly: some people came in groups and moved from table to table, while others arrived alone but pulled up a chair and got stuck in.

"A real highlight for me was seeing Esdevium’s energetic Daniela Pietrosanu hound a group of 14 twenty-and thirty-somethings into an exhilarating stand-up game of Dobble in the middle of the room."

The night also saw the launch of a partnership with the Uber London, offering Board Game Club goers a free ride worth up to £20 when they download the app and use a promo code.

Co-founder and Toyologist Peter Jenkinson added: “Board Game Club can only ever be as good as the games we feature, so we worked hard to create a menu to cater to all tastes.

"Games manufacturers have been really supportive, so we’re grateful for all their suggestions and we’re on the look-out for the next big thing for our next event in July.

"After the first two nights, we instinctively know which games will work and which aren’t quite right for this setting, so not every game will make it, but those that fit the Board Game Club dynamic will go down a storm with the event’s loyal following.”

Other games featured at the second Board Game Club included Telestrations and Linkee (John Adams), Rory’s Story Cubes (Coiled Spring), 10-Up (Green Board Games), Taboo and Scattergories (Hasbro), a vintage Mastermind, Bug Bingo (, Man Bites Dog and Five Second Rule (University Games).
