Distoy 2013 is showing promise for its biggest turnout ever, with more exhibitors and more visitors added to its distributors only event list than before.
Taking place at London’s Crowne Plaza and the St Ermin’s Hotel on June 11th to 14th, its showrooms have already reached maximum capacity.
“All available space that can be used as showrooms is now full, suggesting that we have indeed reached our peak,” David Potter, owner and event organiser of Distoy London, told ToyNews.
“We do have more exhibitors, but in addition to that hotel bookings suggest that we will have considerably more visitors this year as well.”
However, with an emphasis on an intimate atmosphere to allow for complete privacy, Distoy does not attribute this growth to shouting about its presence.
“We have never advertised,” said Potter. “Word has spread over the past few years that the show provides what the trade wants and in an ideal location at the right time of year.
“It’s been described as the trade’s best kept secret. The secret seems to be out now.”
But despite the surge in the show’s popularity, Potter also insists that the event hasn’t lost sight of its key principles.
“Our philosophy is unchanged. Our objective is to provide distributors with an opportunity, other than in Hong Kong, to attend private ‘behind closed doors’ previews and progress meetings.
“For this reason we have resisted the temptation to use an open arena such as Olympia. The Crowne Plaza venue has established itself as a recognisable international toy show location together with the St Ermin’s Hotel around the corner that has accommodated the overflow.
“We desperately want to retain the intimate and friendly atmosphere as well as the ability to conduct private and confidential discussions.”
