Ben Winchell and Ana Villafañe have joined Dolphin Films and Mattel's Max Steel movie.
Winchell, who has appeared in Disney shows A.N.T. Farm and Necessary Roughness, will play Max McGrath, the boy who becomes Max Steel when he partners up with an alien companion.
Villafañe will play McGrath’s love interest Sydney Gardner.
Dolphin Films International is proposing the film to buyers in Berlin today, and has signed a deal with IM Global for services including sales, marketing and legal support.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce audiences worldwide to Ben Winchell and Ana Villafañe,” said Bill O’Dowd, CEO Dolphin Entertainment.
“The Max Steel franchise fan base is extremely passionate about the lead characters of Max and Sydney, and we knew we needed to get the casting just right. Ben and Ana are extremely talented young actors, and we’re confident fans will fall in love with each of them the minute they hit the big screen.”
The film has had a troubled history, having previously been handled by Paramount, who had Twilight's Taylor Lautner in the starring role.
The project remained on the shelf for so long that the rights expired, but Dolphin Films picked up the project last year.
Max Steel is scheduled to land in US cinemas in 2015.
