Sony Pictures' Barbie movie will hit cinemas on June 2nd, 2017.

Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind Juno, Jennifer's Body and Bad Adult, has penned the latest script for the live action Barbie movie.

Sex and the City writer Jenny Bicks penned the first draft of the script, but Cody, known primarily for edgy movies, joined the project to earlier this year to write the latest draft.

"Diablo’s unconventionality is just what Barbie needs,” producer Walter Parkes told Deadline.

“It signals we’re going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We’re bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie.”

Barbie is one of two Sony projects with Mattel, the other being Masters Of The Universe, which is yet to be dated.
