Barbie and Ben 10 shine

Mattel and Bandai products named amongst the top gifts for girls and boys this Christmas by the TRA.

Mattel's Barbie ranges remain a firm favourite with girls, while Doctor Who, Transformers and Ben 10 will charm boys this Christmas, according to the Toy Retailers Association.

Barbie Princess Rosella doll - inspired by the latest Barbie DVD - made the girls top 12 toys for Christmas listing, alongside other Mattel products My Baby, Polly Pocket Race to the Mall and Puppy Grows and Knows Your Name.

Vivid's Bratz and Zapf's Baby Born and Baby Annabel were also singled out.

Meanwhile, a range of TV and film-inspired toys will top boys' wish lists this festive season. Bandai's Ben 10, plus Hasbro's and Character's excellent Transformers and Doctor Who lines were all named.

With a new series of Ben 10 and yet more from the Power Rangers, don?t expect anything radically different from Bandai in 2009 other than the same solid sales performance in the boys sector. It does, however, also offer some interesting new girls? lines, as Ronnie Dungan found out?


Vtech and Bandai shine at TRA Awards

Vtech and Bandai were the big winners at last night’s Toy Retailer Association Awards, scooping the top two accolades, Toy Supplier of the Year and Toy of the Year 2005 respectively.
