Academy Award nominee Andy Garcia has joined the cast of Dolphin Films' live-action Max Steel movie, based on the hit Mattel toy property.

Garcia will play the role of the 'brilliant and mysterious scientist', Dr. Miles Edwards.

“We’re ecstatic to be working with legendary actor Andy Garcia,” said Bill O’Dowd, CEO, Dolphin Films.

“Dr. Miles Edwards is a very complicated character, and he is central to the entire mythology of Max Steel. The role requires a truly talented actor, and there is no one more qualified than Andy to tackle it.”

Garcia has appeared in the likes of The Untouchables, The Godfather: Part III and Internal Affairs.

Max Steel also stars Ben Winchell as Max McGrath and Ana Villafañe as Sofia Martinez and is being directed by Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn's Stewart Hendler.

The film looks to be an 'in-depth origin story packed with captivating characters and fast-paced action'.

Max Steel is slated for a wide theatrical release in 2015.
