The green Google Android mascot has inspired some ex-employees of WowWee (the Robosapien maker) to develop a new product called Bero.

Billed as the 'Ultimate Smartphone Companion', it's a wireless multi-motored semi-autonomous bluetooth controlled robot.

After seeing Google Bug Droids – autonomous AI bots (pictured below), the team at Reality Robotics were inspired to make their own bot.

After a visit to Google headquarters the team was not given the go ahead to turn their concept into a real product, so instead came up with their own brand and personality – Bero.

The team at Reality Robotics explains: "Not wanting to kill the project after having already put so much work into it, and to make sure we could launch without any issues; we redesigned the outside shell to have a different appearance, while maintaining the same internal integrity and design we developed in the Bero secret lair."

The project is currently gathering investment on crowdsourcing site Kickstarter and has reached around $8,600 of its $38,000 target so far.

A series of special Beros are available to kickstarter backers, adding extra motors and functionality with the size of the pledge. If backers of Bero pledge enough cash they can receive special Silver and Gold 'bling' editions.

Bero will initially be controlled by Android devices only, but Reality Robotics has plans to add an iOS app once the product hits retail.
