The first store in Scotland will open in Cupar, Fife on June 16th, followed by Forfar, Angus on June 18th, with plans to open a further eight stores in the country.

Cupar and Forfar will be the eighth and ninth stores in the chain. The other shops are located in Didcot, Amersham, Evesham, Warminster, Wokingham, Cosham and New Milton.

Boss Andy Latham said: “We’re delighted to be launching Alworths in Scotland and we hope the stores will be well received by the local communities in Cupar and Forfar."

"The stores in Cupar and Forfar are between 5 - 6,000 sq ft, which is an optimum size for alworths’ stores. They are also both situated in busy market towns which suits our requirements exactly, as we strongly believe that there is still a desire for traditional high street shopping.

"... ultimately we will be stocking the products that customers have been missing on their local high streets and that have proved successful in our seven other stores.”

Alworths will be creating 20 new jobs in the two towns. Both stores are ex-Woolies stores and many of the alworths’ colleagues will be former Woolworths’ employees including the area manager, Graham Johnston and trading manager of Cupar, Kate Fitzpatrick.
