Play-room, the new toy division of AIS Stores, promises to offer its members, including former Youngsters’ members and Garden Retail Group members (GRO) a wide range of toys and related products, following its construction in some seven weeks.

Set up from a growing number of member requests, the group has already started trading with 63 signed suppliers, including Bandai, Brainstorm, Character Options, Flair, Hasbro, Le Toy Van, Playmobil, Schleich, Tomy and University Games, to mention just a few, and said more are being signed up each day.

Joyce Daly, controller of the toy division, told ToyNews that both suppliers and members are to benefit from the services the division will provide.

“Play-room will offer toys and a wide variety of related products backed up by a retail-focused marketing strategy.

"The response from suppliers, to the formation of Play-room has been overwhelmingly positive, especially from those who have visited AIS and seen how impressive and professional our organisation is," Daly also said.

A Toy Strategy Committee consisting of toy trade members has been formed to guide the group’s direction and will also work closely with Miles Penhallow, manager of the toy division, and well-known industry members, Val Stedham and Alan Simpson.

"AIS is the largest non-food buying group in the UK with member turnover in excess of £1.8 billion and our facilities reflect this fact," Daly concluded.
