Although 50 per cent of parents believe it is ‘very important’ for their kids to get out of the house, nearly a third (27 per cent) said their children spend less than two hours playing outdoors per week.

Five per cent of mums and dads said their children spend no time at all playing outside.

The figures come from a report by the Woodland Trust and IKEA. The pair asked 2,000 parents about their family's outdoor activities.

28 per cent of parents surveyed preferred visits to the beach and trips to local parks and woodland areas followed with 24 per cent.

Ten per cent of parents said their family preferred to stay indoors watching TV or playing computer games.
