The LEGO Group has opened its 13th LEGO Store in the UK, with a ribbon cutting ceremony carried out by the North East's 'biggest LEGO fan'.

Five year old Lewis Gray, a pupil at Lobleyhill Primary School in Gateshead, was the first person to step inside the new store at the Intu Metrocentre, where he was given an exclusive LEGO set alongside sets for all of his fellow classmates.

Gray wowed LEGO representatives with his vast collection of LEGO sets to beat hundreds of entries to receive the honour of opening the store.

One of 13 LEGO Stores across the UK, the new Gateshead store offers the biggest selection of LEGO products available in one place, including LEGO exclusives.

Gray said: "Even though I am only five, LEGO has been my favourite toy ever since I can remember. I love LEGO because they have all different shapes and sizes. When I grow up, my dream is to work for LEGO and be a LEGO designer."

The LEGO fan's mother, Amanda Gray, added: "My little boy has been on the LEGO journey since his very first Christmas when he got a Duplo Farm and a big box of LEGO bricks. He lives, sleeps and breathes LEGO."

LEGO Store European marketing manager, Florian Mayer, commented: "Some of the entrants' collections and the creations they told us about were just phenomenal. It was a really tough choice picking just one winner, but Lewis really stood out because of his young age and clear passion for building and story-telling."
