Legions of toy Daleks could potentially be terrifying TV viewers during next year's Doctor Who Christmas special.

A video, claimed to be taken inside the BBC's research and development lab, has revealed that the broadcaster is working on toys which can be controlled by TV episodes.

In the YouTube video below, the prototype Dalek is connected to a set-top box via a wi-fi connection, which transmits instructions to the toy, allowing it to move in-sync with the on-screen Daleks.

The information could potentially be incorporated into TV episodes to be used during live broadcasts or on DVDs.

Could this experiment herald a new era of TV controlled toys?
