The animated film is set to land in cinemas in 2017 and, along with the Jem and the Holograms film, will be one of the first movies to comes from Hasbro's Allspark Pictures label, reports Variety.

Allspark Pictures has been set up to self-finance or pair up with other companies to co-finance a slate of film projects.

Hasbro Studios will be producing and financing the My Little Pony movie inhouse, with plans to release the film “on the broadest possible number of screens,” according to Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios and global entertainment and licensing for Hasbro Inc.

Davis added: “We’re very excited about the potential of that movie.”
