To mark the arrival of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, a model of the city of Rio de Janeiro has been created in LEGO.

Using almost one million LEGO bricks, the model took 50 LEGO builders 2,500 hours over one year to finish.

In partnership with the Danish government, LEGO created the model to celebrate the games, which kicks off this evening with the opening ceremony.

The model will be showcased at the Olympic Boulevard until August 21st, and will be donated to the city's Museu da Cidade once the games have finished.
