Revenues for the latest series of the popular card game are also expected to grow throughout 2011.

The recent surge has been credited to the new release across March and April of the Black & White series of cards and the brand new online aspect of the Trading Card Game, the Pokémon: Trainer Challenge, which allows collectors to upload cards to their online profile and do battle from their computers.

Pokémon, which is distributed by Esdevium Games in the UK, has also benefited from new releases across all three of its main platforms - video games, trading card game and animation.

Steve Buckmaster, sales director at Esdevium said: "We’re really happy to see Pokémon selling well once again. Pokémon have done a fantastic job with the new Black & White cards and the Trainer Challenge.

"The new features allow kids to buy a theme deck and play it online for free, adding a huge amount of value to the cards. With further releases throughout the year, we expect sales to continue to grow."

Black & White releases continue throughout April with booster packs, tins and mini-albums being released on April 25th.
