TIA celebrates 100 years of service to toy industry

To mark the anniversary, the TIA has taken a look back over the last 100 years, highlighting key moments in the industry from 1916 to 2016 in a timeline.

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is celebrating 100 years of serving the North America toy industry.

Over the years, the TIA has worked with various toy firms to help leverage emerging platforms and technology in the industry.

“Over the last century our members have continually touched children's lives, bringing them both happiness and the developmental benefits of play while we at TIA are proud to have supported our members every step of the way,” said Steve Pasierb, president and CEO of the TIA.

“Today in America, toy sales are showing robust growth, toy companies are creating innovative products, and a new generation of parents is embracing the essential role of play for their children. What an extraordinary gift it is to work each day in the toy world.”

The TIA first kicked of its 100th anniversary celebration on September 17th, 2015, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Toy Halls of Fame Exhibit at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.

To continue the celebrations, the TIA has taken a look back over the last 100 years, highlighting key moments in the industry from 1916 to 2016 in a timeline.

Plus, industry expert Chris Byrne, has published a commemorative book, They come to Play: 100 Years of the Toy Industry.

Neil Friedman, chairman of TIA’s Centenary Committee and president and CEO of Alex Brands, added: “TIA has had a momentous impact on the industry, providing invaluable leadership, resources and support to toymakers, retailers, distributors, inventors, and other play professionals.

“With more than 40 years of experience in the industry, I have witnessed TIA stand by its members, adapt rapidly to change, educate the public on toy safety and the benefits of play, and steadily advance industry safety standards, innovation and philanthropy.”
