Celebrities chip in for charities

A host of celebrities lend their support to children's charities Toy Trust and Barnardo's.

Kylie, Christian Bale, Michael Parkinson, Jonathan Ross, Tony Hawk, Chris Evans, Calvin Harris, Evel Knievel, Jemima Khan, Bob Wilson and Jimmy Somerville are signing toys that will be auctioned off on eBay to raise money for the two children’s charities.

The charity auction, which is being run by the BTHA will go live on January 30th, 2008. Bidding will close on Friday February 29th.

The signed items on auction include a Kylie doll, Batman 70cm figure – never before sold in the UK, a cricket bat and Star Wars Transformer, along with a Xbox 360, practice putting green, Ker-Plunk, Dare Devil Stunt Set, Lilya ballerina doll, a football and Doctor Who Dalek

The Toy Trust, which is run by the BTHA to raise money for children’s causes, has raised £2 million since its launch in 2001.

Barnardo's, which was started in 1870, supplies services to vulnerable children such as counselling, fostering and adoption, vocational training and disability inclusion groups.

Natasha Crookes, director of communications at the BTHA said: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the celebrities who have given their valuable time to help us raise money for such important causes. We have our fingers crossed that the general public will dig deep and help us raise as much money as possible.”
