The BTHA decided to become the main event sponsor after supporting TSI for several years. BTHA has, for many years, supported the TSI Young Consumers of the Year competition and the PlaySafe project, which teaches school children about product safety through a competition to design a safe toy.

Roland Earl, director general of BTHA, said: “The BTHA are very pleased to be the main sponsor this year.

“The BTHA has long worked closely with the Trading Standards Institute, notably through the Playsafe Competition. We are delighted to be able to increase the level of our support in 2009.

“The Trading Standards Conference is a very valuable annual event, not only for those many organisations that trading standards deal with everyday of the year, but most importantly as a platform for sharing new information and as a forum for networking amongst Trading Standards officers themselves.”

Ron Gainsford, chief executive of TSI, said: “We are delighted that BTHA has kindly agreed to be our main sponsor for conference 2009.

“TSI has had a very good relationship with BTHA in the past. The Association has supported our conference in a number of ways in previous years and we are pleased to be working side by side with BTHA for this year’s event.

“The current economic climate means the work done by trading standards professionals is more important than ever and our annual conference provides a unique opportunity to interface, network and showcase areas of best practice.”

TSI’s Conference and Exhibition, which is this year set to take place in Brighton from 30 June to 2 July, is the leading consumer affairs and trading standards event in Europe.
