The 2012 Toy Retailer of the Year Awards for the UK and Ireland is now open for applications.

Retailers can compete nationally in like-for-like categories and can apply in more than one category, if applicable.

The The British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA) has redesigned the retailer award categories for 2012 'in a bid to keep categories relevant, clear and to create a simple application process which will again allow self nominations'.

Nominations will also come from a panel of nationwide industry experts.

The Awards categories are as follows:

A. INDEPENDENT TOY RETAILER OF THE YEAR

You may enter this category if you are an independent toy retailer with no more than two stores or an independent retailer that runs no more than two toy departments within a larger store.

B. SPECIALIST MULTIPLE TOY RETAILER OF THE YEAR

This category is for multiple toy retailers (with three or more stores) which specialise in toy retail.

C. GENERAL MULTIPLE TOY RETAILER OF THE YEAR

This category is for non-specialist toy retailers with toy departments or aisles. This category includes entries from supermarkets.

D. ONLINE TOY RETAILER OF THE YEAR

Companies can enter this category if the main business is through online sales or if there are online toy sales which complement main store retailing. This category will be judged on the toy offering of the website alone.

E. BEST OVERALL TOY RETAILER OF THE YEAR 2012 FOR UK AND IRELAND

The retailer is picked as overall winner from the winners of the other categories.

** SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD

Judges have the ability to make a Special Recognition Award at their discretion after considering all entries. This is not a category for which retailers can actively submit an entry.

The finalists will be announced in December, along with the Toy of the Year Award winners, at the newly created annual Industry Awards evening. This takes place on January 22nd, 2013, in the Upper West Hall at Olympia.

To enter the competition email Liz@btha.co.uk for an application form and the associated entry information.

For all other event queries you can contact Matt Jones, Head of Member & Special Events at the BTHA, at Matt@btha.co.uk.
